Antique Hand-Painted Nippon Sugar Bowl

$ 7.99

This antique Japanese Nippon sugar bowl is exceptionally pretty.  It is hand-painted in light blue, brown and white with elegant gold beaded trim. The scenes depicted are of tranquil homes on a lake with sail boats drifting by.  Interspersed between the scenes are hand-painted gold leaf designs. The bottom is marked with the “Pagoda Hand Painted Nippon” mark, which is Van Patten's #71. The date on this piece is not known, but original Nippon dates from 1891-1921. Though Nippon is quite collectible and desirable, this piece is sadly missing the lid. However, it is still quite pretty as a display piece or to use as an elegant little vase.

Condition: Other than the missing lid, this sugar bowl is in good vintage condition. It shows general wear due to its age, mainly through worn off paint in spots, especially the gold trim design in the middle and on the edges. There are no chips or cracks.

Approximate Measurements: 4"wide at the base (5 and 1/4"wide including the handles) and 3-1/2"tall
